Ta Cu Mountain is a nature reserve located 30 km southeast of Phan Thiet. Visitors may hike up the mountain for free or take the gondola (cable car) through a beautiful tropical rainforest to the pagoda at the top. The current pagoda was built in 1879 and is surrounded by a series of 3-door gates, temples, Buddha statues, tomb towers and a cave. Legend says that a boy once followed the cave all the way to the sea, 20 km away. The main attraction is Vietnam’s largest reclining Buddha, at 49 meters long.
On the way to Ta Cu you can visit Khe Ga Light House island.
The Lighthouse of Ke Ga is the tallest in Vietnam and was built by the French in 1897. The island is located off Tien Thanh, the longest continuous beach in the province. It’s a beautiful spot, where large boulders jut out of enormous, wind-swept dunes. Visitors must be sure to bring proper sun protection, as this is one of the hottest and most desolate areas of South East Asia.
